Regular air raid alerts in Ukraine have significantly affected the daily operations of the McDonald's fast-food restaurant chain, forcing establishments to suspend customer service and switch to safety mode. Nevertheless, despite forced downtime and the suspension of production processes, the company management made a principled decision to fully retain wages for all employees for the time spent in shelters. Teams and guests wait out the danger in safe zones, and the company covers all expenses to provide people with essentials.
Logistical difficulties and a shortened menu
Constant sirens and shelling threats pose serious challenges to the company's supply chain. Delivery delays and difficulties in transporting fresh products led management to temporarily introduce a shortened menu. This helps guarantee the stable availability of the most popular and demanded items, although the assortment in different restaurants may noticeably vary depending on the current delivery situation in a specific location.
Social responsibility and HR policy
Despite the extremely difficult economic and wartime conditions, McDonald's in Ukraine remains one of the country's largest employers, uniting about 12,000 employees. Special attention is paid to inclusivity and supporting vulnerable population groups: the staff includes about 2,000 teenagers, more than 400 people with disabilities and veterans for whom adapted working conditions have been created. In addition, the company preserves jobs for more than 450 mobilized colleagues, providing them with internal support.
Pricing and regional features
The pricing of dishes in the chain is based on objective economic factors, including the cost of ingredients, operating expenses, and logistics costs. This is why prices may vary depending on the region, reflecting the specifics of delivery to remote or tourist locations, such as Bukovel, Yaremche, or Hlybochytsia. Additionally, the cost of items ordered through partner delivery services differs from restaurant prices due to order processing costs.
