FBI representatives emphasize that interaction has already moved beyond the stage of simple intelligence exchange. Now, the discussion revolves around deeper cooperation, which, according to the bureau's leadership, is necessary to effectively counter threats that do not recognize state borders.
Visit to Beijing and Plans for Moscow
Personal trips by the head of the agency are evidence of the seriousness of intentions. At the end of July, Kash Patel visited Beijing to discuss the details of interaction. Moreover, his working trip to Russia is scheduled for October. This visit will be a continuation of the course to restore contacts between American and Russian law enforcement agencies.
Patel explained that the approach to such "unconventional partners" will be selective. Cooperation does not cover all areas of intelligence agency activities, but focuses exclusively on specific types of transnational crime. He also noted that this model could be applied to other states depending on the situation.

The FBI's decision has provoked a sharp reaction in the professional community. Former US counterintelligence officers express serious concern, calling such steps a radical change in approach that could jeopardize national security.
Former senior FBI agent Jeff Crocker could not hold back his emotions in a comment to the media: "China and Russia are our enemies, period. They are actively trying to harm our country physically, economically, and militarily." According to experts, such contacts could become excellent cover for foreign intelligence services, allowing them to gain access to American facilities or official information.

This turn in FBI policy is taking place against the backdrop of the recent confirmation of Kash Patel as director. At the end of 2024, Donald Trump nominated him, setting the task of reforming the bureau and strengthening the fight against crime.
