Imagine not needing to use your hands to get dressed. This is not a science fiction plot, but a reality that South Korean and American engineers are approaching. A joint group of developers has presented a fundamentally new technology — robotic clothing capable of dressing itself onto a person.
How the 'robotic vine' works
The innovation is based on a structure of soft, flexible rods resembling a plant vine. These elements are integrated directly into the suit's fabric and are powered by compressed air. The mechanism works on the principle of ivy: the rods slide in close proximity to the body, wrapping around it and climbing upwards.
Lead developer Kim Nam Gyun explained the essence of the process: the robotic system turns the clothing inside out as it moves, ensuring stable 'climbing' along the contours of the human body. The entire dressing process takes just ten seconds.
Technological features
The uniqueness of the solution lies in the fact that the structural elements do not just move across the body but increase in size. This allows the mechanism to adapt to the curves of the human body, maintaining movement stability.
Kim's colleague, developer Ryu Jee-Hwan, emphasized the versatility of the technology. Thanks to its ability to pass through narrow gaps and grow, the suit can move regardless of surface characteristics. It works effectively even on slippery, sticky, or uneven parts of the body.

Primarily, it will become an indispensable aid for the elderly and people with disabilities, ensuring their independence in daily life. Furthermore, developers note the importance of the invention for industrial and emergency services:
