The first autumn month in the Ukrainian capital will be remembered by residents not only for golden foliage, but also for outstanding climatic indicators. According to official data from the Boris Sreznevsky Central Geophysical Observatory, September in Kyiv demonstrated a significant excess of long-term climatic norms, and meteorological autumn arrived in the city with a considerable delay.

Climatic Summary of the Month

The average monthly air temperature in September of this year was +16.3°C, which exceeds the usual figures for this period by 1.4 degrees Celsius. This temperature regime allowed city residents to enjoy summer weather much longer than usual. Meteorological autumn officially arrived in Kyiv only on September 21, when a steady transition of the average daily temperature below the +15 degrees mark occurred. This is five days later than long-term average dates.

Temperature Extremes

Throughout the month, the weather demonstrated contrasts. The coldest day was September 23, when by morning the minimum air temperature dropped to +5.9°C. Conversely, the peak of heat occurred on September 10, when thermometers in the capital rose to a maximum of +29.7°C, reminiscent of the height of July.

Precipitation and Weather Phenomena

In addition to temperature anomalies, the month was marked by heavy rains. At the meteorological station on Nauka Avenue, 86 mm of precipitation was recorded, which is an impressive 148% of the monthly norm. In addition, at the end of the month, a dense fog covered the capital, significantly complicating visibility in certain areas of the city.

Forecasters' Predictions

According to the Ukrhydrometeorological Center, no radical changes in the synoptic situation on the territory of Ukraine are expected in the next three days. Mostly dry weather without significant precipitation is expected, which will allow Kyiv residents to continue walking in comfortable autumn weather conditions.
