Arda Turan's Shakhtar dealt with Chornomorets and caught up with the UPL leader: two headed goals in the first half

Donetsk's Shakhtar secured another victory in the Ukrainian championship, beating Odesa's Chornomorets 2:0 in a UPL match. Arda Turan's side fully controlled the flow of the game and decided its outcome before the break, scoring both goals in the first half. Before the match, the Donetsk side had played a tough game against Dutch PSV in the Champions League, so Turan resorted to significant squad rotation. As early as the 8th minute, the hosts suffered a setback: Ala'a Gram was injured and replaced by Valeriy Bondar. Despite the personnel changes and the early disruption, Shakhtar's tempo was unaffected, and the team confidently held the initiative throughout the first half.

Two headed goals before the break

The first goal came on the 12th minute: Oleg Ocheretko responded to a precise cross from Neilton on the left flank and headed the ball into the corner of the Odesa goal. The Donetsk side doubled their lead on the 34th minute — Bondar, positioned at the corner flag, delivered a surgical cross into the box, where Meirelles also headed in the second goal. Thus, both goals in the match were headed strikes, which commentators highlighted, calling the result a "headed double".

Goalkeepers — the main heroes of the second half

After the break, Shakhtar continued to create dangerous moments, however the key figure of the second half was Chornomorets' goalkeeper Aniaigboso. The Odesa keeper made a series of brilliant saves, in particular parrying a dangerous shot by Viktor Tsukanov from close range and a strike by Carvalho. The Odesa side responded with rare attacks and won promising set pieces, but they failed to beat Dmytro Ryznyk, which is why the final score remained unchanged.

The 2:0 score allowed Shakhtar to earn three important points and catch up with Zhytomyr's Polissya in the UPL standings — both teams have 15 points, meaning the Donetsk side levelled with the championship leader. In the same round, Kyiv's Dynamo, in which Yarmolenko extended his personal record, left no chances for Epitsentr. For Shakhtar, the victory over Chornomorets confirmed the depth of the squad: even a semi-reserve lineup is capable of confidently solving tasks in the top division.
