Sibiga Accuses UNICEF of Distorting Facts: "A False Impression of Equivalence is Being Created"

Andriy Sybiga, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, voiced sharp criticism against the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) following the organization's publication of a statement regarding child casualties in the conflict zone. The head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry stated that the wording in UNICEF's report dated August 4, 2026, omitted key context: all child deaths are a direct consequence of Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine.

Accusations of Creating False Equivalence

According to Sybiga, by providing statistics on killed and wounded children without clearly indicating the causal link to the actions of the Russian state, UNICEF created a false impression of equivalence between the parties to the conflict. "It is extremely regrettable that in its statement, the organization missed the key point: all these deaths of children are a direct consequence of Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine," the minister emphasized in a comment distributed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

Official Kyiv insists that any generalizations that do not single out the aggressor effectively blur responsibility for war crimes. Sybiga called on the international community and humanitarian organizations to condemn the actions of the Russian Federation and demand an end to the killing of innocent civilians.

Contradictory Data

In his statement, Andriy Sybiga pointed out serious factual errors in the UNICEF report concerning the situation both in Russia and in Ukraine. In particular, the minister drew attention to inaccuracies in the description of the incident in Krasnodar. According to the Ukrainian side, UNICEF failed to take into account that the victims in the Russian region were the result of a drone falling, which, according to reports, was intercepted by Russian air defense, rather than a direct strike on civilian objects.

Furthermore, Sybiga pointed out a lack of basic fact-checking regarding victims in Ukraine. The Foreign Minister noted that the organization's statement contains incorrect figures: in the Dnipropetrovsk region, seven, not three, children from one family were killed. Sybiga also added a fresh tragic case: "And yesterday, Russia killed another innocent Ukrainian child — a three-year-old boy in the Kyiv region".

Context of the Tragedy in Radushne

The central episode that sparked disputes over data accuracy was the tragedy in the village of Radushne near Kryvyi Rih. On the night of July 30, 2026, a Russian ballistic missile hit a private house where a large family lived. As a result of the attack, the parents and their children were killed. It was about these victims, according to Sybiga, that the statement spoke, where, according to Kyiv, data on the number of children killed was distorted.

The Ukrainian diplomat emphasized that this is not just about statistical inaccuracies, but about Russian war crimes that require immediate condemnation by international institutions.
