The eSIM service for travelers, Holafly, has released a global ranking of the world's most welcoming cities. The study covered 200 metropolises and evaluated them based on four key criteria: safety levels, visa policy openness, the development of tourist infrastructure, and the prevalence of the English language.
Singapore emerged as the absolute leader. The city-state scored 77.7 points on the Numbeo safety index and 164 points on the Henley visa restrictions index. Experts also noted the presence of an extensive network of tourist information centers, making the stay of foreigners as comfortable as possible.
Europe and North America in the Top Twenty
London took second place in the global tally, becoming Europe's most welcoming city. The British capital surpassed popular destinations such as Sydney (3rd place), New York (4th), and Boston (5th). The Hague, Copenhagen, and Aarhus also made it into the top ten.
European countries demonstrate a strong position in the ranking: nine cities from the continent made it into the top 20. In addition to London and Edinburgh (11th place), high scores were awarded to:
- Copenhagen and Aarhus (Denmark) — 9th and 10th places;
- Utrecht and Amsterdam (Netherlands) — 12th and 17th places;
- Prague and Brno (Czechia) — 16th and 20th places.
Canada received the largest representation among countries. Three cities made the list: Ottawa (14th place), Toronto (18th), and Montreal (19th).
What Did the Experts Actually Evaluate?
The authors of the study emphasize that the ranking does not measure the popularity of a destination or the number of attractions. The main goal is to show how convenient and safe a city is for a foreign guest. High positions are held by places where it is easiest for a tourist to obtain a visa, find help if necessary, and feel protected.
