At the beginning of August, fierce fighting unfolded on the eastern front of Ukraine. Russian troops launched a series of offensive operations in the Sloviansk and Konstantynivka directions, hoping to break through the defense. However, according to data from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), these attempts were unsuccessful: Ukrainian forces stopped the enemy in time and launched counterattacks.
Fighting in the Sloviansk direction
On August 1 and 2, Russian occupiers continued active operations in the area of Sloviansk. Despite the pressure, the Armed Forces of Ukraine managed not only to hold back the onslaught but also to go on the counteroffensive. As reported by RBC-Ukraine citing an ISW report, the Russian army failed to achieve confirmed successes in this sector.
The situation was confirmed by one of the Russian military bloggers, who noted that the Armed Forces of Ukraine conducted a counterattack near Rai-Aleksandrivka — a settlement located east of Sloviansk. This indicates that Ukrainian troops are not just defending but are actively pushing the enemy out of occupied positions.
KAB strikes and preparation for the assault
American analysts note that Russian occupiers are increasingly using guided aerial bombs (KABs) to prepare the battlefield. The goal is to destroy infrastructure and create conditions for subsequent offensive operations against Sloviansk.
Vadym Lyakh, head of the Sloviansk city military administration, confirmed that on the morning of August 2, the city was hit by a FAB-250 guided aerial bomb. Such attacks are aimed not only at destroying objects but also at demoralizing the population and military personnel.
Konstantynivka direction: myths and reality
The situation on the Konstantynivka tactical direction developed similarly. Russian troops continued offensive operations on August 1 and 2, but no confirmed advance was recorded. At the same time, one of the Russian military bloggers claimed that the Russian army advanced south and southeast of Vasutynske, as well as north of Peremarovka. However, there is no evidence to support these claims.
It is important to understand: the enemy continues to rely on KAB strikes to destroy buildings and create conditions for the penetration of sabotage and assault groups. As an officer of one of the Ukrainian special forces units reported, Russian soldiers often hide in basements or destroyed buildings, waiting for reinforcements.
Additional events
In addition to the fighting on the eastern front, RBC-Ukraine reported on other significant events. On the night of August 3, Ukraine's air defense forces repelled a new Russian attack. Furthermore, it became known that the Armed Forces of Ukraine struck one of the largest Wildberries warehouses in Russia.
