Over the coming weekend, on September 5 and 6, 2026, the weather in Ukraine will change noticeably: forecasters expect strong wind with storm-force gusts and a significant drop in temperature. RBC-Ukraine reports this, citing a Facebook post by meteorologist and forecaster Nataliya Didenko. According to the expert, the defining feature of the upcoming weekend will be the wind rather than any temperature records, so residents of the country are asked to be especially attentive and cautious.
Storm wind on the weekend
Didenko clarified that on both September 5 and 6, strong wind with storm-force gusts of up to 15–22 meters per second is expected across Ukraine. Such wind values are considered dangerous: they can break tree branches, tear down advertising structures, and worsen road conditions, so the forecaster directly addressed "dear weather-sensitive folks" with a request to take these conditions into account in their weekend plans.
Regional temperature differences
Despite the overall frontal process, the temperature background will be uneven across regions. In Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, the air will warm up to +26…+32°C, while in the western regions it will be cool — around +18…+20°C, with only Zakarpattia expected to be slightly warmer. Thus, the temperature spread between the eastern and western regions on the same day can reach more than ten degrees.
Precipitation and the atmospheric front
Due to the activity of an atmospheric front, rain on Saturday, September 5, is most likely in certain regions, while in other areas the weather will be without significant precipitation. By Sunday, September 6, the picture will change: according to Didenko's assessment, rainy weather will cover virtually the entire territory of Ukraine, and air temperatures will drop "all over Ukraine."
Forecast for Kyiv
In the capital, on Saturday, September 5, the maximum air temperature will range between +23…+24°C. The following day, on Sunday, September 6, it will cool down to +17…+19°C in Kyiv. The forecaster warned that on Sunday the capital can expect rain and strong wind with storm-force gusts of up to 15–20 m/s, and advised Kyiv residents to "dress warmer."
Forecast for the following week
Wrapping up the overview, Didenko added that there is no need to be upset about the approaching cooling: in her words, the following week "will still gift Ukraine with warmth and a real, gentle autumn sun." Thus, the cooling on September 6 is assessed as a temporary episode within the overall September weather pattern.
Contradictory data
Experts' views on the further evolution of the weather diverge. Nataliya Didenko, whose forecast forms the basis of this article, promises warmth and a gentle autumn sun for the following week. At the same time, other Ukrainian outlets (for example, kp.ua) speak in their headlines of an approaching cooling and mention storm-force wind with a significant temperature drop to as low as +12…+18°C in the coming days. The difference in assessments may be linked to different forecast horizons and regional specifics: a short-term "warm" episode and a cooler background for the following week do not necessarily exclude each other, however, exact figures for the longer period have not yet been agreed upon among forecasters.
Forecaster's recommendations
The meteorologist's main recommendation for the weekend is to take strong wind and rain into account when planning trips, to dress warmer, especially on Sunday, and to be cautious in conditions of storm-force gusts. For residents of the western regions and Kyiv, the cooling will be most noticeable, while in the eastern regions hot weather will persist on Saturday.
