On October 18, another cooling trend and deteriorating weather conditions are expected across Ukraine. According to the Ukrhydrometeorological Center, cited by RBC-Ukraine, the day will be mostly cloudy with sunny spells, and rains are expected in a number of regions. Forecasters note that precipitation will be uneven: its nature and intensity vary significantly depending on the region.
Where rain is expected
According to the forecast, moderate rains will sweep across Ukraine. During the day, significant precipitation is possible in places in the southern and most central oblasts, while only light rain is expected in the far west of the country. Thus, the day promises to be wettest in the south and central parts of the country, while the west will remain relatively dry.
Fog and wind
In the morning, fog is forecasted in Vinnytsia, Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, and Kyiv oblasts, which may complicate road visibility. The wind will blow predominantly from the northeast, and in the west of the country from the northwest, at a speed of 5–10 m/s, with no sharp gusts.
Temperature map by region
During the day, air temperatures in most oblasts will warm up to only 13–18°C. It will be warmest in the southeastern part of the country, where thermometers will rise to 18–23°C, and coldest in the western oblasts, where 9–14°C is expected. The regional temperature spread is more than 10 degrees, which is typical for the transitional autumn period.
Frosts in the west
Ukrhydrometeorological Center representative Natalia Ptakha reported that local ground frosts are possible in the western oblasts. At the same time, according to her, there are no prerequisites for severe or hazardous frosts, so it is only a matter of cooling right at the surface in certain areas.
Context: cooling trend
Experts remind that forecasters previously predicted a cooling in Ukraine precisely in mid-October, and today's figures confirm this trend. Separately, the Ukrhydrometeorological Center drew attention to the fact that so-called "heat islands" may persist in certain areas, where the temperature will be higher than the daily average for the region.
