As a result of the strike, a fire broke out on board; a 58-year-old cook died, and eight other crew members were forced to evacuate on a life raft.
On that same day, other civilian vessels flying the flags of Palau and Belize were also hit. Even earlier, on June 19, Russian drones attacked two ships flying the flags of Panama and Saint Kitts and Nevis. On one of them, one sailor died and two were injured, while on the other ship, three crew members sustained minor injuries.
