On Sunday evening, July 19, a powerful explosion rocked Zaporizhzhia. The city was subjected to an attack by the Russian Federation using guided aviation bombs. The main impact hit the residential sector, where a five-story apartment building suffered significant damage.
Casualties and Injured
According to the latest data, the number of people injured in the incident has risen to 42. Among those requiring medical attention are eight children. Unfortunately, the deaths of two people have been confirmed. Rescuers and medical personnel worked under difficult conditions, extracting people from the rubble and providing first aid. Many of the injured are in a state of shock.
Emergency Services Operations
Forces of the National Police, the State Emergency Service (SES), and medical teams were deployed to eliminate the consequences of the attack. Psychologists from the rescue service have already provided support to 41 people, including 11 children who experienced the tragedy. Law enforcement officers have recorded the attack and initiated a criminal case under Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, classifying the enemy's actions as war crimes.
Scale of Destruction
The destruction is extensive. In the five-story building that became the target of the strike, two floors have been completely destroyed. Walls have collapsed, leaving tons of construction debris and twisted structures inside. The shockwave and shrapnel damaged a neighboring nine-story building — windows were blown out and balconies destroyed. Buildings in the private sector were also damaged.
In addition to residential buildings, a logistics operator's terminal was hit. As a result of the bomb impact, a fire broke out at the facility, which had to be extinguished by fire crews. Cranes and special equipment are working at the scene to clear the rubble and search for possible survivors.
