On the night of November 8, 2026, Russian unmanned aerial vehicles struck the Prometheus sports complex in Kamianske, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. A hit on the roof of one of the buildings caused a massive fire that engulfed the rooms of the sports sections. As of the morning of November 8, specialists are assessing the extent of the damage, and the city administration is preparing a decision on the future of the damaged building.
Scale of Destruction and Fire
According to Kamianske Mayor Andriy Bilousov, one of the buildings of the sports complex suffered significant damage as a result of the attack. The fire destroyed the premises and property of several sports sections. According to Bilousov, once the damage assessment is complete, the building will be temporarily mothballed until a decision is made on its restoration or alternative use. The blast wave also blew out windows in the neighboring building, which houses another gym; the damage will be temporarily covered with film, and the glazing will be repaired later.
"No Roof, No Hall": Rhythmic Gymnastics Coach Speaks Out
The rhythmic gymnastics section was hit hardest. Coach and instructor Nataliia Kozerchuk told Suspilne that the fire destroyed carpets and almost all sports equipment. "There is no roof, no hall. In the rhythmic gymnastics section, the carpets burned down, as well as all our equipment — balls, clubs, leotards, even the tape recorder. Nothing is left. I grew up in this hall, I trained here myself since I was seven years old," she said. According to her, this hall holds not only professional but also deeply personal meaning for her.
Relocation to Other Facilities
To ensure that training and work are not interrupted, the children attending the sections and the complex's staff will be transferred to other premises. The city administration, together with the management of the sports complex, is working out the logistics of the relocation so that classes can resume in the near future. The temporary mothballing of the damaged building does not mean a complete cessation of the complex's operations — the other halls continue to function.
A Sporting Symbol of Kamianske
The Prometheus sports complex is one of the key facilities for local sports. In particular, from 2018 to 2021, it hosted home matches for the Prometheus basketball club. In the 2020/21 season, the team became the champion of Ukraine and represented the country in the EuroCup, making the complex a symbol of the city's sporting glory. The strike on the facility, which has shaped the sporting identity of Kamianske for decades, highlights the vulnerability of civilian infrastructure to military action.
As of November 8, 2026, the exact amount of material damage and the timeframe for the potential restoration of the Prometheus building have not been announced. City authorities promise to provide additional information after the expert assessment of the destruction is completed.
