The city of Zaporizhzhia has once again become the target of a large-scale attack. As a result of the strike by Russian guided aerial bombs, residential districts and infrastructure facilities were damaged. According to the latest data, people remain trapped under the rubble of destroyed buildings, and rescue services are providing assistance.
Destruction in the residential sector
The main targets of the attack were multi-story apartment buildings. Russian combat aircraft dropped guided aerial bombs, which caused critical damage to a five-story residential building. As a result of the blast wave and the collapse of structures, two floors of the building were completely destroyed. The neighboring nine-story building was also damaged: windows were shattered, and balconies and facades were damaged.
In addition to apartment buildings, destruction was recorded in the private sector. Buildings located within the blast radius sustained significant damage. Photos from the scene show huge holes in the walls, collapsed ceilings, and piles of construction debris.
Casualties and rescue operation
Preliminary data indicates that two people were killed as a result of the shelling. At least ten people have been injured with varying degrees of severity. All emergency services are working at the scene: medics, firefighters, and rescuers.
The situation remains tense. The Head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, Ivan Fedorov, confirmed that people are still trapped under the rubble. "Rescuers are doing everything possible to dislodge them as quickly as possible," the regional leadership stated in a message. The search and rescue operation for civilians is continuing around the clock.
Fire at a logistics facility
The strike did not only hit residential buildings. A terminal of a major logistics operator was also shelled. As a result of a munition hitting the site, a fire broke out on the territory, which is still ongoing. Firefighting units are trying to localize the fire to prevent it from spreading to neighboring buildings.
Context of escalation
This is not an isolated incident in recent days. Yesterday, July 18, passed under constant attacks: Russian forces used KABs (Guided Aerial Bombs) against the private sector, and a drone set fire to a food industry enterprise. The day before, on July 16, three guided aerial bombs destroyed private homes, killing two people. This series of strikes indicates a systematic nature of attacks on urban infrastructure and the civilian population.
