Ukrainian company TAF Industries has been granted founding member status within a new initiative — the EU Ukraine Drone Alliance. This coalition is being established to coordinate efforts in the field of defense unmanned systems and counter-drone measures. The first meeting of the founding companies is scheduled for September in Brussels.
Alliance composition and selection criteria
The new alliance includes 18 companies selected based on the principle of having proven experience and expertise. The participants represent a balanced structure: 9 companies from Ukraine and 9 from European Union member states. This parity is intended to ensure equal participation of both sides in developing strategies and technologies.
A key factor in selecting the founding members was real-world experience in creating defense unmanned systems and developing solutions to protect against enemy drones. The initiative relies on Ukraine's combat experience, which will serve as the foundation for strengthening the security of both the EU and the Ukrainian state.
Goals and objectives of the coalition
The main goal of the initiative is to develop comprehensive potential in the field of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and countermeasures against them. The alliance aims to create specific opportunities to support innovation in the defense sector.
It is important to note that at the current stage, there is no discussion of direct drone production within the alliance. As emphasized by TAF Industries, specific details of project implementation will become known after the coalition begins its work.
Production sites and logistics
The alliance's activities are expected to contribute to the creation of joint production sites with European partners. These facilities may be located both on Ukrainian territory and in EU countries. This approach is aimed at solving critically important logistical tasks:
- Reducing the vulnerability of supply chains.
- Ensuring long-term access to necessary components.
- Strengthening defense capabilities through technological exchange.
Context: Anti-Ballistic Coalition
The creation of the drone alliance takes place against the backdrop of the activation of other defense initiatives. On July 13, in Paris, during a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing, Ukraine, together with nine European states, launched an anti-ballistic coalition. The new format of cooperation will focus on the development of missile defense, the creation of means to intercept ballistic missiles, and the strengthening of the protection of Europe's airspace.
