Kyiv Mayor Igor Terekhov commented on the large-scale strikes by Russian forces on gas stations in various regions of Ukraine. According to the mayor, the enemy's actions have a specific goal — not only the destruction of infrastructure but also psychological pressure on the civilian population.
The goal of the attacks is panic and paralysis of life
Terekhov stated that Russia is trying to scare residents, however, the situation in Kharkiv is under control. There is neither panic nor a fuel shortage in the city. On the contrary, the mayor noted a high level of unity and fighting spirit among Kharkiv residents, which, in his opinion, is a critically important factor for all of Ukraine.
However, the enemy's strategy goes beyond simple intimidation. According to Terekhov, the main task of Russian strikes is to deprive the frontline regions of fuel in order to destroy the chain of life support. In fact, this is an attempt to paralyze the work of emergency services: ambulances, fire brigades, utility services, and public transport.
There is a solution that is already being tested
Despite the difficult situation, the Mayor of Kharkiv is sure that there is a way out. "There is a certain solution that is currently being tested. And I believe it has a chance of success," Terekhov emphasized in an interview with Radio Liberty, as cited by RBC-Ukraine.
Against the backdrop of recent events, the mayor urged Ukrainians to unite as much as possible to restore damaged infrastructure objects as quickly as possible. Earlier, he also recommended that residents plan visits to gas stations only during periods when there is no air raid alert to minimize risks.
Consequences of strikes in Kharkiv
On July 27, Russian forces struck another gas station in Kharkiv. This is not the first incident of this kind in the city. Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported on the consequences of a double attack on a gas station, which led to significant damage and a temporary suspension of the facility's operations.
