The situation in the Black Sea is rapidly escalating. Kyiv has officially stated that Russia has chosen a path of escalation and is prepared to use any means to achieve its goals. Diplomatic tensions have reached a peak following a series of attacks on civilian vessels and port infrastructure.
Threat to Global Food Security
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine condemned the actions of the Russian side in its statement. Kyiv emphasizes that Russia's terrorist attacks on merchant vessels are not just a local conflict but a direct threat to global food security. The destruction of logistics chains in the region will inevitably hit global markets.
Particular concern is raised by the official warning that Moscow has disseminated among shipping companies. Russia has declared navigation in its exclusive economic zone to be dangerous. According to Ukrainian diplomats, this statement may conceal preparations for provocations against vessels heading to Russian ports.
Call for a Moratorium on Voyages
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has issued a stern appeal to international ship-owning companies. In the interests of safety and the preservation of crew lives, Kyiv recommends temporarily suspending maritime traffic with Russian ports in the Black Sea until the situation stabilizes.
"Following the Russian statement on the danger, it is impossible to guarantee the protection of vessels and their crews," the ministry's statement notes. Ukraine places exclusive responsibility for the escalation on Russia, pointing out that Moscow does not shy away from any methods.
Consequences of Escalation
The scale of the threat was voiced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andrii Sybiha. He warned that the continuation of Russian terror in the region will lead to a shock increase in food prices. This will affect the most vulnerable categories of the population worldwide.
Statistics from recent weeks confirm the seriousness of the aggressor's intentions. Since the beginning of July alone, Russian forces have attacked 31 merchant vessels in the so-called Black Sea grain corridor. Ukraine states that it is using all available means to ensure its security, citing the inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter.
