The country's Prime Minister, Anutin Charnvirakul, an active pilot, personally piloted his private TBM 930 aircraft to the 1st Wing airbase in Nakhon Ratchasima province. Upon approaching the airfield, the civilian aircraft was met by an escort of three F-16 fighters, which formed a complex combat formation: two aircraft took up flanking positions, while the third flew directly over the passenger liner.

The Prime Minister's visit was organized as part of special exercises simulating a mission to escort a high-ranking guest. Issues regarding the modernization of the 1st Wing's fighter fleet remain relevant: plans are being considered to purchase Saab Gripen E/F aircraft to replace aging F-16s.
