Filming has officially begun on the sequel to the psychological thriller 'The Housemaid', according to Wave (RБК-Україна). The second part is based on author Freida McFadden's second novel in the series about heroine Millie Calloway and will serve as a direct continuation of the first film, which was released in theaters and gathered a wide audience. According to the source, the theatrical premiere of 'The Housemaid 2' is scheduled for December 17, 2027.
Casting: Return of Main Characters and a New Name
The cast of the second installment includes Sydney Sweeney, Kirsten Dunst, Michele Morrone, Brittany Snow, Stephen Kalyn, and Paul Anthony-Kelly. Sweeney will reprise her leading role as Millie Calloway, while Michele Morrone returns as Enzo. A key addition to the cast is Kirsten Dunst, who will play Wendy Garrick. The actress is known for projects such as 'Spider-Man' and 'Melancholia', and her participation is one of the most notable additions to the new film. Brittany Snow, Stephen Kalyn, and Paul Anthony-Kelly will also star in the movie.
Plot: A New Job and a Closed Door
Following the events of the first film, the heroine gets a new job at the home of the wealthy Garrick couple. Behind the family's outward prosperity lies an alarming secret: Millie is tasked with housekeeping duties, but under one strange condition — she must not see the lady of the house, Wendy, who remains behind a closed door. Gradually, the heroine begins to suspect that this rule hides something much more serious than a simple family quirk. The new job once again plunges Millie into a world of manipulation, dangerous secrets, and psychological tension. The plot details of the adaptation may differ from the original book.
Production and Directing
Paul Feig, who directed the first part, will return to direct the sequel. The screenplay will develop Millie's story while introducing viewers to new characters. Thus, the creators maintain the unified visual and dramaturgical approach established in the original while expanding the scale of the story through new storylines and characters.
Context: A Star at the Peak of Popularity
Sydney Sweeney is currently one of Hollywood's most sought-after actresses: following the series 'Euphoria' and 'The White Lotus', her career has skyrocketed, and in recent months her name has regularly been the subject of discussion in media and sports press. The return of Sweeney and Morrone paired with the appearance of Kirsten Dunst makes 'The Housemaid 2' one of the most anticipated thrillers of the upcoming theatrical cycle, where, just like in the first part, housework once again becomes the beginning of a dangerous acquaintance with other people's secrets.
