British actress Tilda Swinton has become the new ambassador of the French jewellery house Cartier. The brand announced this on the occasion of the launch of its new collection, Into The Wild, and the appointment itself was featured in Harper's Bazaar Arabia, as reported by Wave RBC.UA. For an actress whose career now spans four decades, this appointment coincided with a period of notable professional change and became an occasion for her to speak publicly about how she understands her creative partnership with the brand.

'The Meeting of Two Creative Worlds'

In Swinton's own words, she sees her collaboration with Cartier not as an ordinary contract with a fashion brand, but as the meeting of two creative worlds. The actress compared the situation to the moment when someone introduces two people who could have been friends long ago — which is precisely why she describes this new chapter as natural and timely. Swinton paid particular attention to the jewellery house's ability to combine respect for its own history with a constant search for the new: she is drawn to Cartier's archives, its recognizable code, and its sense of contemporaneity at the same time. In her view, the house does not merely preserve its heritage but continually reinterprets it, and it is precisely this flexibility, attention to craftsmanship, and readiness for transformation that resonate with her as an artist.

The Into The Wild Collection and the Image of the Wild

The first major Cartier project featuring Swinton is the Into The Wild collection, which continues the house's long history tied to the image of the panther and the world of the wild. In the new series, the jewellers turned to the images of various animals — including the white tiger, the rhinoceros, the parrot, and the crocodile — which the artisans recreated in precious materials, using complex techniques of cutting, inlay, and stone setting. In this way, the collection expands Cartier's signature zoomorphic language, taking it beyond the familiar symbol of the panther.

The Faune & Flore de Cartier Necklace

For the photoshoot, Swinton wore the transformable Faune & Flore de Cartier necklace featuring a crocodile motif. The piece is crafted from white gold and set with onyx, chrysoprase, rubellite, tsavorite, emeralds, and diamonds. According to the description, the necklace is fully articulated, so it visually resembles a living creature literally winding around the neck. This solution underscores the sculptural, almost kinetic nature of the collection, in which the jewellery piece functions as a standalone work of art.

A Creative Turning Point and the Role of the Team

The ambassadorship coincided for the actress with an important period of professional change: after four decades of active work in film, she shared that she is gradually reducing the number of major feature-length projects and devoting more attention to her own creative initiatives. Right now, it is especially important for her to independently define the direction of her own creative work. Swinton drew a parallel between the work of the jewellery house and her own approach to art: she is drawn to the fact that behind every Cartier piece stands the labor of many people, and creativity has never been an exclusively individual process for her — for years she has been speaking about the importance of the team, collaboration, and a shared vision. For Cartier, Tilda Swinton becomes a face that allows the art of jewellery to be shown not only through the prism of luxury, but also through art, imagination, and individuality.
