The night of August 7 to 8, 2026, became one of the heaviest for Ukraine in recent times. The Russian armed forces carried out a large-scale attack using both combat drones and ballistic missiles. A particular tragedy occurred in the Kyiv region, where an entire family was killed as a result of a strike on a civilian object.
Tragedy in Pukhovka: casualties among civilians
According to an official statement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, published on his Telegram channel, combat drones attacked the settlement of Pukhovka on the night of August 8. As a result of a hit on an ordinary residential house, three people from one family died: a grandfather, a grandmother, and their grandson. The President emphasized that the Russian military, planning the strike, could not have been unaware of the civilian status of the building.
In addition to the deceased, four people were urgently hospitalized with serious injuries. Among the injured were the parents of the deceased child, his 15-year-old brother, and a neighbor who came to help the family. Doctors diagnosed thermal burns and shrapnel wounds in the victims. The neighbor was injured during a second strike on the object, which indicates the systematic nature of the attack on a specific point.
Large-scale attack on Kyiv and regional infrastructure
In addition to targeted strikes on residential buildings, Russian troops struck Kyiv's civilian infrastructure with six ballistic missiles. Fires were recorded in Kyiv in the Holosiivskyi district on the territory of non-residential construction, as well as a fire in fuel tanks in the Obolonskyi district. As a result of the attack in Kyiv, four people were injured.
The scale of the operation covered almost the entire country. Under fire were not only Kyiv and the Kyiv region, but also the Donetsk, Kharkiv, Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, Kherson, Mykolaiv, Chernihiv, and Poltava regions. In the Brovary district of the Kyiv region, a private house, outbuildings, and a car were damaged due to falling debris.
Call to strengthen air defense and impose new sanctions
Against the backdrop of a new wave of attacks, Volodymyr Zelenskyy appealed to international partners to increase pressure on Russia. The President emphasized the need to introduce new sanctions that should complicate the production of Russian ballistic missiles. He also called on Western countries to increase assistance to Ukraine with air and missile defense systems.
"Anti-ballistic missiles, interceptor missiles for Patriot, SAMP/T, NASAMS, HAWK, and our F-16s — all this works and helps protect life when it is here, in Ukraine, and not somewhere in warehouses, thousands of kilometers away from Russian strikes against life," the head of state noted, emphasizing the effectiveness of Western weaponry.

RBC-Ukraine, citing Zelenskyy's statement, reports the death of three people in Pukhovka. In addition, some sources mention a "fire on the territory of non-residential construction" in the Holosiivskyi district, which may indicate that strikes on infrastructure were targeted, but at the same time caused damage to residential quarters.
