Turin's "Juventus" has officially exited negotiations for the transfer of goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin from Portuguese "Benfica" and the Ukraine national team. The Italian club, which initially considered the 25-year-old Ukrainian as a candidate to strengthen their goalkeeping line, abandoned the deal due to financial conditions deemed unacceptable by Lisbon. This was reported by Sport RBC.UA citing the Italian publication Calciomercato.it.

Financial Deadlock: Rent vs. Mandatory Buyout

According to sources, the "bianconeri" sent an official request to the "eagles" to rent Trubin for the 2026/2027 season. However, the management of "Benfica" agreed to release the player only on the condition of a mandatory buyout of his contract in the summer of 2027 for 35 million euros. In the Turin club, this amount was recognized as significantly inflated and not corresponding to the current situation of the goalkeeper, after which negotiations were frozen and the deal effectively collapsed.

Quick Replacement: Vicario from "Tottenham"

Having closed the issue with the Ukrainian, "Juventus" almost instantly redirected efforts to an alternative option and signed a deal with the goalkeeper of London's "Tottenham" and the Italian national team, Guglielmo Vicario. The Turin club rented the Italian with a buy option for just 8 million euros, with an additional 2 million provided in the form of bonuses. The difference in financial parameters of the two deals — 35 million against 8 million — clearly explains why the Turin club chose the more affordable candidate.

Loss of Status at "Benfica" Complicates Trubin's Position

The situation of Anatoliy Trubin in the Lisbon club remains difficult anyway. At the start of the new season, the Ukrainian unexpectedly lost his status as the main goalkeeper: the new head coach of the "eagles", Marco Silva, is betting on the Portuguese Samuel Soares. That is why the 25-year-old keeper is eager to change his club address and does not want to settle for the role of a reserve. Trubin's current agreement with "Benfica" is calculated until June 30, 2028, and the release clause amounts to 100 million euros, which further limits transfer possibilities.

Statistics and Alternative Scenario in Germany

In total, Anatoliy has played 151 matches for the Portuguese giant, keeping his own goal "dry" in 60 of them, and also scored a historic goal against Madrid's "Real" in the Champions League. A parallel story also deserves special attention: it was previously reported that the graduate of Kyiv's "Dynamo" would continue his career in Germany. Thus, the collapse of negotiations with "Juventus" only accelerates the transition of the Ukrainian goalkeeper to the German championship, where, according to available data, he has already found a new club.
