US President Donald Trump made a sensational statement that the United States had planned a military strike on Iran of unprecedented scale, but canceled the operation at the last moment. This is reported by RBC-Ukraine citing The Economic Times.
According to the head of the White House, preparations for this strike were completed, and it could have been the largest since the end of World War II. However, the implementation of the plan was postponed after representatives of the Iranian regime allegedly personally contacted Trump and asked to stop the aggression in order to begin negotiations.
"Beating the nonsense out of them" and the desire for peace
Trump described the current US strategy towards Tehran as a process of "beating all the nonsense" out of the regime. At the same time, he emphasized that his priority remains a diplomatic resolution of the conflict.
"We are beating all the nonsense out of them. But I would prefer to make a deal because I don't want to kill people. However, at a certain point, we were preparing for the largest attack of all, and over the last few months we have been hitting them with very powerful strikes. We were fully prepared for the largest attack since World War II," the president stated.
According to him, the cancellation of the attack occurred after a direct phone call with the Iranian side. "And they called me and said: 'Please don't do this, let's talk'. And then they say: 'We never said that'. You know what? Fake media knows that they really did say it," Trump added, accusing Iranian authorities of trying to hide the fact of negotiations.

A certain uncertainty has arisen around Trump's statement, related to the position of official Tehran. If Washington claims that Iran personally asked to stop the attack, then Iranian authorities, according to the president, subsequently deny this fact.
