In a tense match of the final round of the Nations League, the Ukrainian men's volleyball team achieved a comeback victory over the German team. This success was critical for the Ukrainians, who had suffered two defeats prior to this match and were on the verge of elimination from the playoff race.
Drama in four sets
The match did not start in favor of the home team. The Germans immediately set a high pace and by the middle of the first set were confidently leading 10:5. However, the Ukrainian team, led by coach Raul Losano, did not break. The 'blue and yellows' gradually reduced the deficit, leveled the play, and at the decisive moment, with the score at 23:23, won two rallies in a row, closing the first set with a score of 25:23.
In the second set, the initiative passed to the opponent. Germany controlled the course of the game and confidently won 25:20, leveling the overall score in the match. After the break, the Ukrainians once again seized control of the game. The third set ended in favor of Raul Losano's charges with a score of 25:22, returning them to the leaders of the confrontation.
The decisive turning point
The fourth set was the most dramatic. The Ukrainians found themselves in a difficult position again, losing by four points. However, at the decisive moment, the team managed to recover and pressure the opponent, winning the set 26:24. Thus, Ukraine secured the final victory with a score of 3:1.
Chances for the playoffs
This victory allowed the Ukrainian national team to preserve its chances of advancing to the quarterfinals of the Nations League. Currently, the fate of the last ticket to the playoffs is being decided in the match between the national teams of France and Bulgaria. If the French win, Ukraine will become the eighth and final participant of the decisive stage of the tournament.
It was previously reported that the Ukrainian national team strengthened its roster before this decisive week of the tournament, which apparently played its role in the team's successful performance on the court.
