Generation Change: From Soviet UAZs to Modern Armored Vehicles
The National Guard of Ukraine (NGU) has received the first samples of specialized Tisa armored vehicles designed for radiation and chemical reconnaissance. This was announced by the Commander of the NGU, Alexander Pivnenko, noting that the new equipment is intended to replace obsolete Soviet UAZ-469RKhB vehicles. The latter, created back in the 1980s based on a civilian off-road vehicle, have long ceased to meet the requirements of modern warfare, failing to provide an adequate level of crew protection and lacking the ability to detect modern types of threats.
Technical Specifications and Capabilities of the New Complex
The new complex, developed according to the technical assignment of the National Guard, represents a significant leap in the technological equipment of NBC protection units. The vehicle is built on the Toyota LC79 chassis and complies with the NATO STANAG 4569 protection standard, guaranteeing a high level of ballistic and anti-mine protection. The machine is equipped with radiation and chemical reconnaissance instruments, an automated data collection and processing system, and a weather station. An important innovation is the ability to transmit obtained data to the command in real-time, allowing for an operational response to changes in the situation.
Enhancing Crew Safety in Combat Conditions
The key advantage of the new equipment is the ability to conduct reconnaissance of dangerous areas without the need to leave the protected vehicle. In conditions of mass use of FPV attack drones and landmining of territories, this is critical for preserving the lives of servicemen. The armored vehicle is equipped with modern night vision systems, ventilation, and air filtration, allowing the crew to work around the clock in conditions of chemical or radioactive contamination. The National Guard notes that the modernization of equipment will significantly increase the effectiveness of unit operations in combat conditions.
Integration into the Defense System and Adaptation to New Threats
Units of radiation, chemical, and biological protection must timely detect hazardous substances, determine the scale of contamination, control the situation, and transmit information to the command. In the conditions of modern warfare, where Ukrainian military personnel adapt vehicle protection using mesh frames and additional protective structures, the appearance of specialized Tisa armored vehicles becomes an important step in reducing vehicle vulnerability to drone attacks. The new equipment allows not only to detect threats but also to minimize risks for personnel when performing tasks in contaminated zones.
