The Ukrainian government and representatives of the American defense corporation Raytheon held a strategic meeting dedicated to the critically important issue of strengthening the country's air defense. The main topic of the dialogue was accelerating the delivery of missiles for Patriot surface-to-air missile systems (SAM) and launching joint air defense production on Ukrainian territory.
Key Figures in the Negotiations
The meeting was led by the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Serhiy Kretsky, together with the Acting Minister of Defense, Yevhen Yermak. On the American side, the negotiations were attended by the Vice President of Raytheon for Land and Air Defense, as well as the company's Executive Director in Ukraine.
The parties discussed not only current needs for armaments but also the long-term prospects for the development of Ukraine's defense industry (DI).
Priority: Protecting the Skies in Winter
As Serhiy Kretsky noted, the main focus of the discussion was on preparation for the autumn-winter period. In the context of an intensifying air threat, it is critically important to ensure the uninterrupted operation of air defense systems.
"We talked about how to quickly increase missile deliveries to Patriot systems before winter, expand their production, and make the Ukrainian defense industry even stronger," the head of the government emphasized.
The goal of the declared strategy is not only to cover Ukraine's internal needs but also to integrate Ukrainian defense capabilities into the global security system.
Localization of Production and International Partnership
Special attention at the meeting was paid to the issue of localizing armaments production. The parties discussed practical steps to launch joint air defense production at Ukrainian facilities. This initiative was previously announced by the Presidents of Ukraine and the US during their meeting in Ankara.
The American side proposed specific implementation mechanisms, and the Ukrainian government undertook to create all necessary conditions for the earliest start of work.
The Role of Japan and New Appointments
In addition to cooperation with the US, Kyiv continues to seek partners to expand its defense potential. In particular, Ukraine is counting on Japan's support in establishing the production of Patriot systems under an American license.
To implement these large-scale plans, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced new appointments aimed at protecting the airspace and defined specific steps to accelerate key defense initiatives.
