The Ukraine national socca team concluded its group stage campaign at the 2026 World Cup, held in Essen, Germany, with a flawless record. In the decisive match for first place in Group I, the "blue-and-yellow" side comfortably defeated Georgia and collected 9 points out of a possible 9, without conceding a single goal throughout the entire group stage.

A perfect group stage

The Ukrainian team's figures in the group stage are impressive: three wins in three matches and a goal difference of 11:0. In the previous rounds, Mikhail Shevchenko's side beat Lebanon 2:0 and Pakistan 6:0, and in the final match they sealed their advantage over Georgia. This result guaranteed Ukraine a place among the eight top group winners.

The decisive showdown against Georgia

The Group I match of the third round was played under the complete dominance of the Ukrainian team. The score was opened at the end of the first half by Maksym Lytvynov, who precisely converted a free kick. Immediately after the break, the "blue-and-yellow" side doubled their lead thanks to a beautiful combination that Tymofiy Lystopad finished with a goal. In the closing minutes, when the Georgians took risks, Lystopad completed his brace and put the final point to the match.

What is socca

Socca is a 6x6 variant of football. Unlike futsal, socca has a larger field size and a different number of players: a match consists of two 20-minute halves, and each team fields one goalkeeper and five outfield players. The game is played on both natural and synthetic turf; the field measures 30×50 m, and the goals are 2×5 m.

The road to the playoffs and history at world tournaments

Thanks to their strong performance, the Ukrainian team advanced directly to the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup, skipping the round of 32. The Ukrainians' opponent in this match will be determined later. It is worth recalling that the Ukrainian socca team is the 2023 world runner-up: in the final of that tournament, the "blue-and-yellow" side lost to Kazakhstan in a penalty shootout. At the 2025 World Cup, the team reached the quarter-finals, where they again lost to Kazakhstan.

Additional context

Earlier, the Ukrainian Association of Football (UAF) announced the schedule for the round of 32 of the Ukrainian Cup. Thus, in parallel with the successes at the world socca championship, the national cup tournament continues in the country.
