The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and the Cabinet of Ministers are introducing large-scale changes to traffic rules and urban infrastructure organization. According to the new regulations, specialized parking spaces and road signs intended exclusively for drivers transporting children under the age of three will appear in parking lots across the country. This initiative aims to increase safety and comfort for Ukrainian families with infants.
Background and Legal Framework
The need to introduce new rules is driven by the development of infrastructure standards and care for the most vulnerable road users. The law establishing the basis for mandatory parking spaces for drivers with children under three years old officially entered into force on March 5, 2026. The resolution developed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs was thoroughly elaborated by the agency and successfully approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine in early October.
Features of New Parking Spaces and Signs
Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Vyhivskyi and Head of the Patrol Police Department Oleksiy Biloshytskyi revealed key parameters of the innovations. Special signs and road markings featuring a baby stroller will appear in parking lots. An important requirement is the location of these spaces: they must be situated no further than 50 meters from the entrance to the parking area. It is emphasized that these parking spaces are additional and do not replace areas designated for vehicles of persons with disabilities.
Driver Requirements and Enforcement
To legally use the new infrastructure, drivers will need to install a special identification sign on their vehicle. Additionally, patrol police officers have the right to request a document confirming the child's age if questions arise. The Ministry of Internal Affairs notes that the innovation is an important step toward creating a modern, inclusive, and safe transport environment in Ukrainian cities.
