On Wednesday, September 9, the weather across Ukraine will be dominated by a stable anticyclone — a high-pressure area that will bring sunny, dry and noticeably warm weather. This is reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing a post by meteorologist and forecaster Nataliya Dydenko. According to her, the prevailing high pressure rules out precipitation: "everywhere — from west to east, from north to south — no rain is expected in any region of Ukraine." Thermometers will rise to summer-like values in places, however, as the specialist warned, cooler air masses will begin to replace the current air within the next few days.
Temperature map for September 9
According to Dydenko's data, air temperatures on Wednesday will rise by several degrees compared with current values. It will be warmest in the west of the country, where daytime readings may reach +27…+32°C. In most regions, i.e. on average across Ukraine, the air will warm to roughly +24…+27°C. It will be slightly cooler in the east — where +21…+23°C is expected. Thus, over the next two days (September 9–10) the country will see predominantly "summer weather" with temperatures ranging from +25…+32°C.
Kyiv: summer air and smog after the enemy attack
In the capital, daytime temperatures will reach +25…+27°C. However, as the forecaster reminded, the city is currently shrouded in smoke and smog — the aftermath of the latest enemy attack carried out in the night of September 8. Because the anticyclone is accompanied by calm or light winds, the dispersion of smoke on Wednesday will be minimal, and air quality in Kyiv will remain degraded. This is an important practical takeaway for the capital's residents: despite the warm and clear weather, breathing near the ground will be harder than usual.
Wind shift on September 10
Relief in Kyiv will come as early as Thursday, September 10: according to Dydenko, gusts of westerly and south-westerly wind in the capital will reach 10–14 metres per second. "This is a strong wind, so the smog situation will improve," the meteorologist clarified. It is precisely this frontal wind that will be the first clear sign that the summer anticyclone is beginning to lose ground and giving way to more mobile, cooler weather.
Conflicting data
It is important here to distinguish the different time frames that the media sometimes present side by side, creating an impression of contradiction. On the one hand, the forecast for September 9–10 from Dydenko and RBC-Ukraine speaks of hot, dry weather up to +32°C. On the other hand, some outlets (in particular, glavred.info) report an approaching cold wave with temperatures dropping to +12°C, while materials from tsn.ua and my.ua with headlines about "thunderstorms and heat up to +32" are dated July 2026 and refer to a different weather episode. These versions do not contradict each other in substance: the heat and lack of rain are expected precisely on September 9–10, while the noticeable cooling is a later stage, which Dydenko merely indicated with the phrase "further on, the air will become fresher," emphasizing that "it is still a long way to real cold." Thus, the discrepancy in figures (+32 versus +12) is explained by the difference in forecast dates, not by an error in the same measurement.
Bottom line: on September 9 Ukraine will be under the grip of an anticyclone — sunny, without rain, with summer temperatures up to +32°C in the west and +25…+27°C in Kyiv. The only "price" of this weather for the capital is the stagnant smog after the night attack, which will only begin to clear with the strong westerly winds on Thursday, September 10. After that, the air will gradually become fresher, but the forecaster does not expect a sharp drop in temperature in the coming days.
