Ukraine will be in the zone of a classic “Indian summer” in the coming days: according to data published by RBC-Ukraine from meteorologist and forecaster Nataliya Dydenko, a “comfortable synoptic situation” will develop across the country on Wednesday, September 16. The expert stated outright that “we will be enjoying a classic Indian summer for almost the entire week,” but warned that from the following week the weather pattern will sharply change to cool and rainy.
September 16: warm in the west, fresh in the east
The warmest on Wednesday, September 16, is expected to be the western regions of Ukraine, where the air may warm up to +22...+26°C during the day. Most regions of the country are expected to have moderately warm weather in the range of +20...+23°C. It will be freshest in the eastern part of the country — around +17...+20°C. Thus, the geographic temperature gradient on this day will be noticeable: from a rather hot west to a cool east.
Forecast for Kyiv and the general character of the week
In Kyiv on September 16, according to Dydenko, “excellent weather” is expected: the air may warm up to +23°C during the day. The forecaster emphasized that it is precisely during this period that a stable anticyclonic situation, characteristic of an “Indian summer,” will dominate across the country — with clear or lightly cloudy weather and moderate warmth without sharp fluctuations. This creates favorable conditions for outdoor leisure and for finishing dacha work.
Sharp cold snap and rain from September 21
The key change in the weather regime, according to Dydenko, will come as early as the coming Monday — September 21. Then the air temperature will drop significantly and will be only +10...+17°C during the day. At the same time, according to the forecaster, there will be noticeably more rain: “atmospheric fronts will cross the territory of Ukraine, bringing moderate and heavy precipitation.” Thus, within a matter of days the country will move from summer +20...+26°C to almost autumnal +10...+17°C with active fronts.
The forecaster's caveats: the forecast needs refinement
At the same time, Dydenko added an important caveat: “this forecast will still need to be refined.” She also noted that the expected cooling is “not final” and “there will definitely still be warm days.” In other words, the sharp drop in temperatures after September 21 is, for now, a probable scenario based on current models, which may be adjusted as the date approaches. Readers should take this uncertainty into account when planning their activities for the second half of the month.
In summary: September 16 and the entire coming week until September 20 are a window of comfortable “Indian summer” with a maximum of up to +26°C in the west and around +23°C in Kyiv. But from Monday, September 21, forecasters expect a cool, rainy period with temperatures of +10...+17°C, which, according to Dydenko, will not be the final one — warm days will still return.
