On September 5, Ukraine is expected to see variable cloud cover and predominantly rainy weather. According to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, as cited by RBC-Ukraine, rain will fall across the country during the day, with thunderstorms in some areas. Meteorologists link the deterioration to the passage of an atmospheric front, which will bring not only precipitation but also a noticeable cooling after a stretch of relatively warm days.

According to the forecast, cloud cover will be variable, and the rain will be mostly light, locally moderate. Precipitation will occur over almost the entire territory of the country, with the exception of the southeast. Thunderstorms are possible in most of the central regions, as well as in Odesa and Mykolaiv Oblasts. Thus, the day will be dry and calm only in the southeast, while the rest of Ukraine will be under the influence of a rainy front.

Wind and danger level

The main feature of the day will be the wind. On the afternoon of September 5, except in Zakarpattia Oblast, wind gusts of 15–20 meters per second are forecast, which is why meteorologists have declared the first (yellow) danger level. The wind itself is expected to be southwesterly and westerly at 7–12 m/s, but it is the squall gusts that pose a risk to poorly secured structures, trees and vehicles, so the hydrometeorological center recommends exercising caution outdoors.

The thunderstorm front, according to specialists' calculations, will affect primarily the central regions, as well as Odesa and Mykolaiv Oblasts. In these areas, the rain may be accompanied by lightning and stronger winds. In the remaining territories, precipitation will be calmer, without pronounced thunderstorm activity, but still noticeable, which is important to take into account when planning trips and outdoor work.

There is a slight discrepancy in the wind figures in meteorologists' public statements. The summary for September 5 lists gusts in the range of 15–20 m/s (the basis for the yellow danger level), whereas in the comment by meteorologist Nataliya Dydenko on the September 5–6 weekend, she speaks of "strong wind with storm gusts up to 15–22 m/s." The difference in the upper limit (20 versus 22 m/s) is explained by the fact that one figure refers to a specific day, while the other refers to the two-day weekend period as a whole. In essence, both versions describe the same bad weather, but with different day-by-day detail.

It is important to note that this rainy week comes against the backdrop of warnings about a moisture deficit in several regions, which in places has persisted since spring. According to the hydrometeorological center, in the western regions only 50–70 percent of the normal amount of precipitation fell over the summer, and meteorologists had not previously promised any significant rain. Therefore, the precipitation on September 5–6 may partially offset the accumulated deficit. At the same time, RBC-Ukraine notes that over the weekend Ukraine will be hit by strong wind, rain and a noticeable cooling, so residents should prepare warm clothing and an umbrella in advance.
