The Ukrainian sports delegation has officially determined its roster for the 2026 Summer Youth Olympic Games, which will be held in Senegal. At the large-scale youth competitions, the country will be represented by 38 athletes competing for medals in 14 different sports. This event will be an important milestone for the development of youth sports in the country and testing the strength of a new generation of Ukrainian talents on the international stage.
Delegation Scale and Selection Details
A total of 77 people joined the official Ukrainian delegation, including 38 athletes — 11 boys and 27 girls. Ukrainians will have the largest representation in individual disciplines in beach wrestling (5 athletes) and athletics (4 athletes). In addition, it is worth noting a historical breakthrough in team sports: for the first time in a long time, Ukraine will be represented by women's national teams in futsal (10 players) and 3x3 basketball. Apart from the athletes, 22 coaches, doctors, massage therapists, 14 staff members, and 3 referees will travel to Senegal.
Contradictory Data
In open sources and various sports summaries, confusions periodically arise regarding the calendar and scale of the 2026 Olympic events. While the Summer Youth Games in Senegal are scheduled for autumn (from October 31 to November 13), winter international starts and other major multi-sport events of the current year are actively discussed in the media space in parallel. In addition, some analytical reviews confuse the total number of disciplines (35 sports are involved in the Youth Olympics, of which Ukraine will cover 14) with the total number of quotas allocated to national federations.
Tournament Geography and Historical Context
The competitions of the 2026 Summer Youth Olympic Games will cover three Senegalese cities at once — Dakar, Diamniadio, and Saly, bringing together about 2,700 young athletes from around the world. Throughout the history of participation in such summer forums, Ukrainian athletes have won 74 medals: 21 gold, 24 silver, and 29 bronze. At the previous Youth Games in 2018, the Ukrainian team won 18 awards (5 gold, 7 silver, and 6 bronze) with 36 representatives. The official broadcaster of the competition in Ukraine is «Suspilne Sport».
