In the conditions of modern warfare, where the aerial threat is becoming increasingly complex and multi-vector, the speed of reaction of anti-aircraft gunners often determines the outcome of the battle. With the support of the Serhiy Prytula Charity Foundation, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have launched a large-scale program to train instructors for working with the SkyLock system. This step is aimed at significantly increasing the effectiveness of air defense.
Technological breakthrough for anti-aircraft artillery
The SkyLock system is not just a new sight, but a full-fledged software and hardware complex designed to modernize mobile fire groups of anti-aircraft artillery. In conditions where enemy drones and missiles fly at maximum speeds, the human eye and intuition often cannot keep up with the dynamics of the battle. SkyLock solves this problem by integrating data from radar stations.
The complex helps the operator instantly detect aerial targets that may be hidden behind terrain features or camouflage. Moreover, the built-in ballistic calculator automatically calculates the aiming point with the necessary lead, taking into account the speed and flight trajectory of the target. This allows mobile fire groups not only to detect threats faster but also to significantly increase the hit rate.
Large-scale training program
In order for the equipment to work at full capacity, highly qualified personnel are needed. The first exercises using SkyLock have already taken place at one of the training centers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Military personnel from various units of the Defense Forces took part in the training.
The organization of training became possible thanks to close cooperation with manufacturers. They provided SkyLock complexes, optical sights, and other necessary equipment free of charge. Instructors with real combat experience working with these systems were involved in the teaching, which allows for the transfer of not only theoretical knowledge but also practical skills of survival and conducting fire in real combat conditions.
Implementation statistics and future plans
The introduction of innovations into the Ukrainian army is taking place at a rapid pace. Since 2025, 90 SkyLock complexes have been transferred to Defense Force units. At the moment, these systems are actively used by 18 units, which is already yielding tangible results in protecting the country's airspace.
This process is part of a broader air defense modernization strategy. It was previously reported that Ukraine is negotiating with the US to accelerate the delivery of missiles for Patriot systems and launch joint production of air defense means. In particular, Kyiv is counting on support from Japan to establish the production of Patriot systems under a US license.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced new appointments aimed at protecting airspace and defined specific steps to accelerate key defense initiatives. The integration of systems like SkyLock into the daily combat work of anti-aircraft gunners is becoming a critically important element of this strategy.
