The prestigious tournament — the World Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships for boys under 17 — concluded in the capital of Azerbaijan. The Ukrainian national team demonstrated outstanding form, returning home with three medals and a place among the top five strongest teams on the planet.

The performance of the national team, led by coaches Serhiy Rutenko and Butkhuzi Karaya, became one of the brightest events of the tournament in Baku. The athletes not only confirmed their high level of preparation but also brought significant sporting achievements to the country.

Timofiy Prykhodko — New World Champion

The main hero for the Ukrainian delegation was Timofiy Prykhodko. In the heaviest weight category (up to 110 kg), he navigated the entire tournament bracket, confidently overcoming the resistance of his opponents. In the final, Prykhodko left no chance for his competitors and won the gold medal of the World Championships, becoming the first champion for the Ukrainian team at this tournament.

Two Silvers — Two Wrestlers

Gold was just the tip of the iceberg. Two more representatives of Ukraine climbed to the second step of the podium, winning silver medals at the World Championships:

  • Ibrahim Nasibov — took 2nd place in the up to 65 kg weight category;
  • Hleb Evseev — became the vice-champion of the world in the up to 92 kg category.

Both athletes stopped a step away from gold, but their results allowed the national team to significantly strengthen its position in the overall team standings.

Entering the World Elite

Thanks to the set of awards — one gold and two silvers — the Ukrainian Greco-Roman wrestling team (U-17) entered the top 5 strongest teams in the world. This achievement highlights the stability and depth of the Ukrainian wrestling school, which continues to produce champions even under difficult international circumstances.

The tournament in Baku became an important stage in the development of young talents. For many of them, this was their first serious experience on the world stage, and they did not disappoint. Prykhodko's gold, Nasibov's and Evseev's silver — these are not just medals, they are proof that Ukrainian sports continues to grow and win.
