Well-known Ukrainian freediver Natalia Zharkova has added another outstanding achievement to her record. At the world championship in Limassol (Cyprus), our athlete demonstrated an impressive result in the most difficult discipline, confirming the highest level of the national underwater sports school.
Triumph in Limassol and the battle for medals
On the final day of the World Championship under the auspices of the International Association for the Development of Apnea (AIDA), medals were contested in the CWT discipline, where athletes dive to depth with constant weight. The Ukrainian athlete's main rival, Zsofia Terek of Hungary, declared a depth of 115 meters, but managed to reach only the 108-meter mark before turning back and receiving a penalty.
Zharkova confidently executed her 113-meter declaration. A clean and technically flawless immersion allowed the Ukrainian to show the best result at the tournament and climb to the highest step of the podium. The silver award was won by Jade Agboton of France, who lagged behind Zharkova by a full 12 meters (101 meters), and the bronze went to Terek (108 meters including the penalty).
Season results and overall standings
Thanks to her victory in the CWT discipline, Zharkova finished the world championship in sixth place overall with 284 points. Zsofia Terek became the absolute champion, while Sanda Delija from Croatia and Mojca Gaberman from Slovenia took second and third places, demonstrating fierce competition throughout the championship.
Recall that the current season brings bright victories to Ukrainian athletes. Earlier at the World Championship under the auspices of the Confédération Mondiale des Activités Subaquatiques (CMAS), Zharkova won a gold medal in free immersion, setting a new world record. Kateryna Sadurska received a silver award at the same competitions.
