The independent art festival Burning Man once again took place in the Nevada desert (USA) — one of the brightest events in the world of contemporary culture, drawing thousands of creative people every year. The main "perk" of the venue is absolute freedom of self-expression: attendees show up in costumes they would hardly dare to wear in everyday life, turning the desert landscape into a giant runway stage. This year's festival guests included Ukrainians, whose looks were described by the lifestyle project Wave (RBC-Ukraine).

According to Wave, the Ukrainian audience at Burning Man includes people from a wide range of fields — from confectionery and gastronomy to digital fashion and media. For many of them, this is not their first visit: some participants return to the festival repeatedly, each time choosing a new, bolder look. The desert setting — the heat, the wind, the sandy plain under a shifting sky — makes any bright detail, from large floral headpieces to tangles of multicolored threads and mirrored masks, especially expressive.
An aristocratic look in the spirit of 'Bridgerton'
One of the standout looks was put together by a Ukrainian confectioner and chef attending Burning Man for the third time. She chose the styling of the popular series 'Bridgerton': a corset, lace, a tall light-colored wig, a fan, gloves, and pearls. Such an "aristocratic" contrast with the harsh desert is a typical festival trick, where a historical or "salon" silhouette is deliberately set against the wild landscape.
Pink fluff and sheer transparency
Daria Shapovalova, co-founder of the digital fashion platform DRESSX and Mercedes-Benz Kiev Fashion Days, attended the festival for the sixth time, with this year's trip decided at the last minute. She went for a daring mix: a pink fluffy fur coat, a white sheer dress, and chunky black boots — a combination of the "soft" and the "rough" that is characteristic of Burning Man's aesthetic.
Freedom of imagination as the main code
Both of the looks described are just part of the palette Ukrainians brought to the festival: from sheer bodysuits and a "French vibe" to large floral and "horned" headpieces. In essence, Burning Man works as an open style laboratory, where there are no restrictions on experimentation and the desert becomes the only — but most striking — runway. For participants, it is a chance to let their imagination run free and try on a look that would otherwise stay off-camera in everyday life.
