On October 18, electricity consumption restriction schedules for businesses and industries will be in effect across Ukraine. At the same time, hourly blackouts for all categories of consumers, according to Ukrenergo, will be applied not nationwide, but only in certain regions. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine citing a statement from the national energy company.
The cause: consequences of attacks on the energy sector
Ukrenergo links the introduction of restrictions to the consequences of massive Russian attacks on energy facilities. According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, more than 15 critical energy facilities were attacked during the overnight strike. The publication previously noted that this attack became one of the largest against Ukraine's energy sector in recent times.
How the restrictions will work in practice
According to the company's information, capacity limitation schedules for industry and business will operate throughout Ukraine. Restrictions for all categories of consumers — meaning hourly blackouts — will affect only specific regions. Energy workers emphasize that the situation in the power grid may change depending on the dynamics after the shelling, so current schedules and volumes of restrictions are being clarified.
Recommendations for consumers
Ukrenergo advises consumers to monitor up-to-date schedules and announcements on the official pages of local distribution system operators — oblenergo. These specific structures publish detailed blackout schedules for specific addresses and subgroups. The company also reminds that when power supply is restored according to the schedule, electricity should be used sparingly to reduce the load on the grid.
Context: statements about plans against cities
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported on statements regarding a new plan by Vladimir Putin concerning all major Ukrainian cities. Combined with the overnight strikes on the energy sector, this forms a general context in which the power system operates under strain, and restriction schedules may be adjusted throughout the day.
