During the last peak week of summer, Ukrzaliznytsia dispatched additional new carriages into service to provide passengers with more seats amid traditionally high passenger traffic. As the carrier reports, in late August the number of Ukrainians returning home or heading abroad rises sharply, causing key rail routes to operate at maximum capacity. To cope with this, the company has repeatedly expanded the capacity of trains on in-demand routes.

New carriages during the peak period

The international route No. 24/23 Helm — Kyiv received additional carriages. Four more coupé and SV (first-class) carriages were put into service for passengers returning home during the last peak week of summer. According to the carrier, capacity on this route had already been doubled by adding extra carriages, which helped meet the growing demand at the end of the summer season.

Technical upgrades for families with children

The new carriages are adapted for comfortable travel by families with children and feature a number of technical improvements. In particular, they are equipped with high-capacity batteries, which allow the air conditioning to keep running even during long stops at the border. The trains also include vacuum toilets and additional amenities designed for passengers with young children.

Delivery plan through the end of 2026

Since the beginning of 2026, the carrier has already received 28 new carriages of Ukrainian production, manufactured under conditions of full-scale war. In total, the company expects deliveries of another 32 similar carriages by the end of the year, bringing the total to 60 units under the rolling stock renewal plan. Thus, by the end of the year the fleet will have been replenished with the planned number of new carriages.

International route Helm — Kyiv

The Helm — Kyiv route remains one of the most in-demand international destinations, especially during the summer period. The carrier emphasises that expanding the train on this line is part of a broader strategy to increase throughput capacity during peak weeks, when demand for tickets many times exceeds the standard capacity of the trains.

Documents and border control

In addition to renewing its rolling stock, Ukrzaliznytsia reminds passengers of the rules for processing documents for international travel, in order to avoid delays at border control. The carrier explains how many minor errors in a surname are tolerated at the border and how to correctly enter personal data on international tickets to minimise the risk of delays during inspection.
