An incident involving an unmanned aerial vehicle occurred in the Dnipropetrovsk region, where a moving passenger train was attacked. The enemy drone struck the locomotive, but thanks to the actions of railway workers, no human casualties were reported.
Evacuation before the strike
The key factor that prevented a tragedy was the work of the monitoring group. Specialists timely detected the approaching threat and transmitted a signal to the train crew. This provided critically important time to organize an emergency evacuation. Passengers managed to leave the carriages before the drone struck the locomotive.
Consequences of the attack and assistance to passengers
As a result of the direct hit by the UAV, the locomotive sustained serious damage and caught fire. Railway workers are taking operational measures to minimize inconvenience for passengers. Currently, the safest alternative route is being developed to deliver people to their destination stations with minimal delay.
Rising threats to passenger transport
Attacks on Ukraine's railway infrastructure are targeted and regular. Recently, Russian forces have increasingly used drones to strike civilian passenger trains, attempting to paralyze logistics and intimidate the population.
The situation in the south of the country remains tense. In particular, on July 19 in the Zaporizhzhia region, a drone attacked a passenger train, injuring a conductor. The day before, on July 18, in the same region, Russian UAVs struck the locomotive and carriages of another train.
Railway industry employees continue to work around the clock, promptly changing routes and evacuating people to ensure the safety of passenger transport throughout the country.
