The situation in the Middle East has reached a critical point. During a large-scale military operation, the US struck transport infrastructure in southern Iran, effectively cutting off the strategically important city of Bandar Abbas from the rest of the country. According to The Telegraph, US aviation and missile systems destroyed key bridges and tunnels, leading to the complete isolation of the Islamic Republic's logistics center.

Destruction of Transport Arteries

US aviation systematically destroyed six bridges in the Bandar-e Khameir district, including the vital Gariveh Bridge. Commercial vehicles, including fuel tankers, were left stranded at the sites of destruction. Additionally, a highway overpass in Kahuristan completely collapsed. The situation for Iranian logistics was exacerbated by a precision hit on the strategic Shahid Mirzaei tunnel on the highway to Sirjan, blocking traffic in both directions.

These strikes completely blocked the key highway connecting Bandar Abbas with Shiraz. Attempts by Iranian authorities to organize detours via dry riverbeds are being thwarted by constant aerial patrols by US drones.

Economic and Military Collapse

Bandar Abbas is the key "gateway" of Iran: its terminals, particularly the Shahid Rajaee Port, handle up to half of the state's total imports and exports. The cessation of land communication threatens the country with a severe shortage of goods and food. Millions of tons of cargo are trapped in the port, and activity there has dropped to a minimum.

The military significance of the blockade is no less critical. The main fleet of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which controls the Strait of Hormuz, is based in Bandar Abbas. By cutting the roads, the US has deprived the base garrison of the ability to receive reinforcements and new missile armaments from central Iran, effectively cutting the base off from the operational transfer of reserves.

Casualties and Conflict Escalation

According to the Iranian Ministry of Health, at least 8 people were killed in the strikes on civilian infrastructure. Tehran has already reacted to the destruction of infrastructure with harsh measures. In response to the destruction of bridges, the IRGC launched missile strikes on US military facilities in Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, and Jordan. In particular, a desalination plant in Kuwait was damaged.

These actions have effectively destroyed the last chances for a peaceful resolution of the conflict and placed the region on the brink of total war. The White House's strategy of forcibly strangling Tehran's main logistics base has led to unprecedented escalation of tensions.
