The administration of Donald Trump is actively preparing for trilateral negotiations to end Russia's war against Ukraine and, by its own assessment, is on the verge of launching them. This was announced by US House Speaker Mike Johnson in an interview with American media, citing recent consultations with the country's top leadership.
Consultations with the White House and Washington Plans
According to Mike Johnson, over the weekend he held telephone conversations with US President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, during which Washington's current foreign policy initiatives were discussed in detail. The House Speaker stressed that the US administration is doing everything possible to find ways to end the war, and preparations for the trilateral format are in the final stages.
Johnson noted that the settlement process involves many complex components and requires careful coordination between all involved parties. At the same time, Washington intends to act decisively to translate diplomatic efforts into a practical plane in the near future.
Assessment of Moscow's Positions and Washington Warnings
Despite the desire for dialogue, the congressional speaker expressed skepticism regarding the reliability of the Kremlin leadership, emphasizing that Russian President Vladimir Putin cannot be trusted. In parallel, Moscow declares its fundamental readiness to return to the negotiation process following recent contacts between the parties' representatives.
According to official data from the Russian side, agreements on restoring the trilateral format were reached after a meeting in St. Petersburg on October 21. At the same time, the timing of the resumption of meetings varies: Russian Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov named a date after November 4, while other sources indicate the period after November 10.
Prospects for Signing a Peace Agreement
Diplomatic activity around the Ukrainian settlement has recently increased noticeably against the background of statements by US Presidential Special Envoy Jared Kushner about encouraging progress on the negotiating track. Donald Trump himself has repeatedly stated that the prospects for ending the conflict are now closer to realization than ever before.
According to informed media sources, Washington expects to hold a high-level summit involving state leaders in December in Florida, where a final peace agreement aimed at ending the long-standing confrontation could be signed.
