The tradition of pickling whole cucumbers for winter, only to spend a long time slicing them for salads later, is becoming a thing of the past. A new, more convenient preservation method is gaining popularity on social media and is already being called a real "hack" for housewives. Instead of spending time slicing in the cold season, vegetables are now being prepared immediately in the form of cubes.

This method, which went viral in the summer, not only simplifies the process of preparing winter dishes like Olivier or vinaigrette but also optimizes storage. Sliced cucumbers pack more tightly into jars, allowing you to preserve more product in one go. According to blogger Yana Velmozhnaya, who demonstrated the recipe on Instagram, you can seal up to eight jars in a single session.

Why you should try the slicing method

The main advantage of this method lies in saving time and effort. In winter, there is no need to take out a cutting board and knife to slice the pickled vegetable — simply open the jar and use the contents in a salad. Additionally, cubes take up less space than whole cucumbers, allowing for more efficient use of jar volume.

Preparation instructions

The preparation process does not require complex sterilization and is accessible to everyone. Here are the main steps recommended by the recipe author:

  • Cucumbers must be thoroughly washed and cut into cubes.
  • Place spices at the bottom of clean, sterilized jars: horseradish leaves, dill umbels, bay leaves, a few peppercorns, and garlic.
  • Tightly fill the jars with the sliced cucumbers.
  • Pour boiling water over the contents to the top and let it stand for 15 minutes.
  • While the cucumbers steep, prepare the brine: mix water, salt, sugar, and vinegar, bringing the mixture to a boil.
  • After 15 minutes, drain the water from the jars and immediately pour in the boiling brine.
  • Seal the jars tightly with lids, turn them upside down, wrap them in a towel or blanket, and leave them until completely cooled.

This approach to pickling not only preserves the taste and crunch of the cucumbers but also makes winter cooking maximally comfortable and fast.
