On the night of October 19–20, 2026, the Volyn region experienced one of the most intense drone attacks in recent days. According to the Volyn Regional Military Administration, cited by RBC-Ukraine, about 15 jet-powered Shahed drones were recorded in the skies over the region, launched by the adversary practically every hour. Some of the devices, according to the same sources, crossed the regional border and were spotted over the Lviv region. As in previous nights, energy facilities and civilian infrastructure were named as the primary targets of the attack.
Scale of the Attack and Target Selection
According to an official report by the RMA, the adversary purposefully targeted energy grid facilities and civilian infrastructure, which is typical for the series of night-time attacks on the region. The launch intensity — "almost every hour," as assessed by the regional administration — indicates an attempt to overwhelm air defense systems while simultaneously damaging critical objects. Several drones that crossed into the Lviv region indicate that the shockwave extended beyond Volyn.
Kovel and Epitsentr Grounds: What Was Damaged
Kovel suffered the heaviest attacks that night. There, according to the RMA, a private auto repair station and a parking lot for trucks with semi-trailers were damaged. A separate strike was recorded on the Epitsentr grounds, where warehouse premises sustained damage. Thus, the consequences of the attack affected both commercial and logistics infrastructure in the city, including warehouse complexes.
Energy Sector and Consequences for Residents
Despite the intensity of the attack, by 09:00 AM on October 20, the regional administration reported that almost the entire Volyn region had been provided with electricity. Only a few settlements in the Lutsk district remained without power at the time of publication. This indicates that damage to the power grid, if any, was local in nature and was promptly repaired.
Other Strikes During the Same Period
Apart from Volyn, other drone incidents were recorded during the same period. On the morning of October 20, a drone struck the Kyiv–Odesa highway in the Fastiv district: according to the prosecutor's office, three people were killed and four others injured. Earlier that day, according to RBC-Ukraine, a drone crashed near a gas station in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv; according to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, one person was killed and six were injured. These episodes confirm that the drone attacks on the night and morning of October 20 were geographically distributed in nature.
Official Position: No Casualties in Volyn
A key fact emphasized by the Volyn RMA was the absence of fatalities and injuries in the region, despite "another difficult night" and the high intensity of enemy attacks. The regional administration called this "truly a great relief." Thus, as of the morning of October 20, 2026, material damage has been recorded in Volyn — in Kovel and on the Epitsentr grounds — but without any human casualties.
