Warehouses on fire in Bucha district after Russian strike: Kyiv–Chop highway closed, explosions reported

Warehouse facilities have caught fire in Bucha district of Kyiv Oblast as a result of a Russian strike. This was stated in Telegram by Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration, according to RBC-Ukraine. According to him, the emergency is accompanied by explosions, which indicates the possible presence of flammable or explosive materials in the warehouses. Information on casualties, the exact scale of the damage, and other consequences of the incident is being verified as of the time of publication.

Closure of the Kyiv–Chop highway

Due to the large-scale fire, the movement of all vehicles has been temporarily closed on the section of the M-06 “Kyiv — Chop” highway from the 15th to the 32nd kilometer. As RBC-Ukraine previously noted, traffic in both directions on part of the Zhytomyr highway has been halted, and alternative routes are available for drivers. Timur Tkachenko urged residents of the district not to approach the scene of the incident and to strictly follow the instructions of emergency services.

Work of emergency services

All necessary emergency services are working at the scene of the emergency. According to the head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration, rescuers are dealing with the aftermath of the strike and are doing everything possible to contain the fire. The priority task at the current stage is to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring facilities and to ensure the safety of the personnel carrying out the work.

Chronology of attacks on Kyiv Oblast

The incident in Bucha district is part of a series of strikes on the region. As RBC-Ukraine reported, Kyiv Oblast has been subjected to 38 enemy attacks since the first hit on the night of August 27. In addition, on the evening of August 28, Russia continued to strike Kyiv and the oblast, which resulted in two people being injured; rescuers were fighting large-scale fires. Thus, by the morning of August 29, the situation in the region remained tense.

The first reports of explosions near the Zhytomyr highway came from social media users, who wrote about a large “hit,” but there was no official information at that time. Only after the statement by the Kyiv Regional State Administration was the incident confirmed at the regional authority level.
