The first days of the calendar autumn will not delight Ukrainians with stable sunny warmth: various atmospheric fronts will influence the weather, so in some areas rain with thunderstorms is unavoidable. This was stated in a blitz interview for RBC-Ukraine by Ivan Semylit, a forecaster at the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center. According to him, the overall synoptic situation across Ukraine will be determined by various baric formations, and in the coming days a cold atmospheric front will move across the country from west to east.
Cold front moves from west to east
Thus, on Tuesday, September 1, brief rain with thunderstorms is expected in the western and northern regions, and during the daytime — also in Vinnytsia and Cherkasy regions. On Wednesday, September 2, local rain is possible at night only in the central regions and in the Sumy area; in all other regions the weather will remain without precipitation. On Thursday, September 3, a new atmospheric front will move across Ukraine, so local brief rain with thunderstorms is again expected — in the Prykarpattia and Zakarpattia regions, and during the daytime — in the northern, Vinnytsia and Cherkasy regions.
Temperature contrast: from +9 at night to +30 during the day
Temperature values across Ukraine will be contrasting. After the cold atmospheric front passes, a colder air mass will spread toward the country; however, in the south and southeast, where there will be fewer clouds, the sun will continue to intensely heat the near-ground air layer. Nighttime minimums will drop from +13…+18°C tonight to +9…+14°C on the night of September 3. Daytime maximums on September 1 will be +23…+28°C in most regions, while in the south and southeast, where the weather will remain without precipitation, thermometers will rise to +25…+30°C.
Weather on September 4–5 and wind characteristics
On Friday and Saturday, September 4–5, rather varied weather is expected. On September 4, no precipitation is forecast — only in the west and north of Ukraine, light rain is possible locally during the daytime. On September 5, brief rain will fall at night in the northern part, and during the daytime across the entire territory, except the south and southeast, locally with thunderstorms. Daytime maximums on September 4–5 will be +20…+25°C in most regions, +26…+30°C in the south and southeast, while on September 5 in the northeastern part of Ukraine they will not exceed +16…+21°C. Wind gusts, according to the forecaster, are not expected for now: on September 1 the wind will be predominantly southwest at 7–12 m/s, on Wednesday — westerly, on Thursday — northwesterly at a moderate speed of 5–10 m/s.
Meteorological autumn not yet declared
There is currently no information on the onset of meteorological autumn — UHMC specialists continue to monitor the development of the situation and, as Ivan Semylit noted, the corresponding message will be published on the center's social media. Thus, the first week of September in Ukraine will be changeable: on the one hand, the cold front will bring rain and thunderstorms, while on the other — nearly summer readings of up to +30°C will be maintained in the southern and southeastern regions.
