In mid-August 2026, Ukrainians will face sharp temperature fluctuations: after several cool days, heat will hit the country, but it will not last long. Meteorologists warn of "weather swings," when air temperatures will rise rapidly and then fall just as quickly. In the coming days, Ukrainians will experience both the peak of summer heat and the beginning of seasonal cooling.
Short cool period and onset of heat
According to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, on August 14, 2026, relatively cool weather is observed throughout the country. During the day, the air temperature remains in the range of +19°C to +24°C. Exceptions are the southern regions and Zakarpattia, where thermometers rise higher — to +26°C and +28°C respectively. Nights on these days will also be cool; in some places, the temperature will drop to +12°C.
Over the weekend, on August 15 and 16, a slight warming is expected. On Saturday, August 15, the temperature in the west of the country will reach +30°C, while in Kyiv it is expected to be +25°C. On Sunday, August 16, the heat will intensify: in the south and central regions it will be up to +28°C, and in the west locally — up to +32°C. In the capital on Sunday, +28°C is also expected.
Peak heat at the beginning of the next week
The beginning of the next week, starting Monday, August 17, will bring hot weather throughout the country. In the east and north, up to +30°C is expected; in the south and central regions — up to +31°C; and in the west, the temperature will reach a peak of +33°C. In Kyiv on Monday, it will be +32°C. At night, it will become warmer across Ukraine — from +16°C to +24°C.
This period will be the hottest in August 2026 for many regions. Meteorologists recommend that residents, especially in western regions, take precautions: drink more water, avoid staying in the open sun during peak hours, and monitor their well-being.
Sharp cooling from Tuesday
Already on Tuesday, August 18, the heat will begin to recede. In the west of the country, the daily maximum will drop to +23°C, while over most of Ukraine the temperature will still remain around +30°C. In Kyiv on Tuesday, +31°C is expected during the day.
On Wednesday, August 19, the cooling will cover almost the entire country. Only in the east will the temperature exceed +30°C, while in the north it is expected to be up to +23°C, in the south — up to +27°C, in the central regions — up to +25°C, and in the west — up to +28°C. In Kyiv on Wednesday, it will be only +24°C.
Contradictory data
Although the main forecasts of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center are consistent with data from other sources, some details raise questions. For example, one of the sources (ID 4) mentions that the cooling has already begun on August 8, 2026, which contradicts the current forecast for August 14. This may be due to a typo in the date or local weather phenomena not reflected in the general forecast.
Furthermore, source ID 3 speaks of "heavy rains" that will cover Ukraine along with the cooling. However, heavy rains are not mentioned in the main forecast of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, creating uncertainty regarding precipitation in the coming days.
Recommendations for the population
Due to sharp temperature fluctuations, meteorologists recommend that Ukrainians pay attention to weather changes. On hot days, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, drink plenty of fluids, and wear light clothing. With the onset of cooling, it is worth preparing warm clothing, especially for evening walks.
Residents of western regions, where the peak of heat is expected, should be especially careful. At the same time, in central and eastern regions, where temperatures will be higher, it is also recommended to take precautions.
