In Ukraine, the anomalous heat that set new temperature records in early August is being replaced by active cyclonic activity. According to forecasts from the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center (UkrGMC), weather conditions will undergo radical changes in the coming days, starting from August 7, 2026. While residents of the country previously suffered from the "scorching heat," meteorologists are now warning of a period of thunderstorms, hail, and dangerous squalls.

Forecast for August 7: Yellow alert level

Based on data from August 6, variable cloudiness is expected across the entire country within the next 24 hours, on August 7. The wind will blow predominantly from the south, but during the day it will shift to the north, which is a classic sign of an atmospheric front passing through. The average wind speed will be 5–10 m/s.

The main feature of the weather will be the appearance of precipitation. In the western regions, moderate and locally heavy rains are expected on the night of August 7. The situation will worsen during the day: dangerous meteorological phenomena are possible over most of Ukraine, including the Kyiv region. Meteorologists have declared a "yellow" (Level I) alert. In some areas, thunderstorms, hail, and gusty wind intensification up to 15–20 m/s are forecasted.

Temperature drop and geography of precipitation

The arrival of the atmospheric front will inevitably lead to a temperature drop. At night, thermometer readings across most of Ukraine will fall to +20...+25°C. In the western regions, where rains will start earlier, temperatures may be even lower. During the day, despite the heat that will persist in the east and southeast, the heat will begin to subside in the central and northern regions.

The situation will become even wetter on August 8. Moderate and heavy thunderstorms are expected to cover most of the country. Only in the east and southeast will precipitation be short-lived. This means that the historical drought observed in the Dniester basin may receive some relief, although not everywhere.

Situation in Kyiv and Kyiv region

The capital and surrounding regions are in a zone of special attention for synoptic meteorologists. On August 7, hot weather is expected in Kyiv, but moderate, locally heavy rains with thunderstorms are likely during the day. In some areas, hail and squalls of 15–20 m/s are possible. The wind will blow from the south, shifting to the north, with a speed of 5–10 m/s. At night, precipitation will cease, but the weather will remain unstable during the day. In the following days, the forecast schedule shows a gradual decrease in temperatures in the capital.

Contradictory data

There is a certain dilemma in interpreting weather conditions for different regions. On the one hand, synoptic meteorologists report a drop in heat and the onset of a rainy period, which should ease the situation for the population. On the other hand, the declaration of a "yellow" alert level is associated with the risk of natural disasters — hail and squalls, which can damage infrastructure and agriculture. Moreover, while temperatures are falling in the west and center of the country, heat persists in the east and southeast, creating an uneven climatic load on different regions of the country.
