During a briefing, Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, voiced Moscow's position regarding possible negotiations on resolving the conflict in Ukraine. According to the diplomat, the Russian side has never refused dialogue and is ready to consider any new proposals and ideas that may be put forward.
However, as Zakharova emphasized, before starting a new stage of discussions, it is necessary to clarify the fate of previously reached agreements. In particular, this refers to the so-called Anchorage agreements, which became the subject of discussions last year.
Requirement to Washington
Zakharova directly pointed out that before putting forward new initiatives, Washington should "clarify" the situation with already held negotiations. In her opinion, without understanding what happened to previous ideas, discussing new proposals makes no sense.
"Before discussing something new, not yet voiced and not formulated, it would probably be right to somehow clarify the old," stated the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
Willingness to Dialogue
Despite the harsh formulation of requirements, Moscow emphasizes its openness to dialogue. Zakharova noted that Russia is ready to consider any ideas that may be proposed by parties interested in resolving the conflict.
This position was voiced against the backdrop of ongoing international efforts to find ways to resolve the situation in Ukraine. At the same time, the Russian side insists that any new steps must be based on an understanding of previous agreements.
