Ukrainian leadership has set specific timelines for transitioning to the independent production of high-tech weaponry. President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the country expects to gain the technical capability to produce missiles for the Patriot air defense system by its own forces by the end of 2026.

The head of state announced this information while speaking with journalists at the 'Southeast Europe – Ukraine' summit. According to Zelensky, the current active phase of work is focused on obtaining the necessary licenses, which is a key stage before launching production.

From Political Agreements to Technical Implementation

The plan to localize the production of American interceptor missiles became possible following a public agreement reached by the leaders of the two countries. On July 8, at the NATO summit, US President Donald Trump confirmed that Washington would grant Kyiv the right to produce Patriot systems.

Zelensky emphasized that after the completion of the political stage and the receipt of an official license, the process must move to the stage of technical implementation. It is at this stage that the Ukrainian team will work out all the nuances for launching serial production.

Production Geography: The European Option

Although the initiative comes from Ukraine, the physical location of production facilities may have an international character. According to media reports, the assembly or production of interceptor missiles for Ukraine will most likely be organized on the territory of one of the European countries.

In particular, cooperation with Germany is being considered as a priority option. This will allow Ukrainian technologies to be integrated into the European defense industry and accelerate the process of obtaining finished products for the needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
