The Ukrainian authorities and the command of the country's Armed Forces have taken a number of steps to strengthen the eastern front. This was reported by RBK-Ukraine, citing a statement by President Volodymyr Zelensky published in his Telegram channel.
On July 21, the head of state held a detailed discussion with the commander of the "East" operational group, Major General Viktor Nikoliuk. The main topic of the meeting concerned the current situation in the group's area of responsibility and strategies for countering Russian assault operations.
Key Points of Tension
During the conversation, special attention was paid to the situation around three strategically important cities: Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, and Druzhkivka. The President noted that the parties discussed possible enemy moves and methods of neutralizing them.
"We discussed in detail the possible steps, the enemy's decisions, and what we can oppose to Russian assault activity," Zelensky emphasized.
Based on General Nikoliuk's report, the priority needs of the eastern direction were identified. The head of state also thanked the command for proposals regarding the use of mid-strike and deep-strike tactics.
Strategy for August and Autumn
The meeting on July 21 was part of a series of meetings dedicated to strengthening defense. On the same day, preparations for possible Russian actions in the north, protection against drones, and issues of strengthening air defense were discussed.
Zelensky stated that Ukraine must maximize its positions by August to be ready for probable escalations in the autumn period. In this regard, work is underway to adjust the defense strategy and determine priority areas for the military-industrial complex.
This is not the first meeting of the President with the command in recent days. On July 20, Volodymyr Zelensky met with the Deputy Chief of the General Staff, Vladimir Gorbatiuk, and the Commander of the Joint Forces, Mykhailo Drapey, to analyze the current situation on the front.
